To my disappointment, I had to work Christmas eve. Even worse, I only had one patient....which means I was there for nothing.
Work almost stole my Christmas spirit, but lo behold...little Landon sleeping soundly brought all of the childlike wonder of Christmas morning back in my heart. What a sweet little boy, yet to experience the wonder of Christmas. As we scrambled around trying to find the video camera, we woke our little angel and the moment was priceless.
Here is an image to capture the moment.
Watch it for yourself:
Landon has a habit of spitting up when you least expect it. I don't know what was more funny: Landon in the act or Lazette in such a frantic state. You choose. We caught this one on camera:
After an hour of playing that video, over and over and over...the funniness wore off and we all gathered around the tree with our coffee, as Nana (Lazette) began giving out gifts for people to open. About 3 presents into the morning, Grandma announces, with hesitation, "My drain fell out." We had a few days left before her gallbladder surgery and NEEDED that drain to stay in, otherwise the fluid would build and build.
After about an hour of making phone calls to various doctors and formulating a plan...Glenn took Grandma to the hospital again. Presents were left unopened and all the fun seemed to fizzle out. We were all unsure what to do as Grandma walked out the door with tears in her eyes.
At this point, I am hitting delirium after working all night. Finally, around noon I went to bed and woke up at 2 or so. Completely exhausted, I dragged my body out of bed, jumped in the shower, ate Christmas dinner with the family, frantically packed our bags and we were off to Leesburg to visit my side of the family. What a hectic day.
Once we got there, we had a whole Christmas spread waiting for us. We had a great visit and lots of gifts for Landon.
I can't wait for next year. Landon will be a lot older and more aware of what is going on. He will learn the true meaning of Christmas and the story of our savior's birth. He will peek under the tree to see which gifts are his. He will leave Santa cookies and milk. And this much I do know, he will be waking us up that morning!!!
